Empowering Women Through Sustainable Development: Chef Dawei Foods Ltd. Leads the Way

In Cameroon, empowering women(women empowerment) is not just an ideal—it’s a necessity for fostering socio-economic development and tackling key global challenges. Chef Dawei Foods Ltd., in collaboration with E Media Entertainment and Investing in People Worldwide, is launching an ambitious six-month project to empower 120 Cameroonian women. This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), tackling unemployment, food insecurity, and environmental sustainability while fostering gender equality and economic empowerment.

Project Goals

The program seeks to provide participants with hands-on training in sustainable agriculture, agro-entrepreneurship, culinary arts, and digital innovation. This initiative is designed to create lasting economic opportunities for women, addressing key challenges like poverty and unemployment while contributing to sustainable practices.

Key Highlights of the Program:

  1. Training: 120 women will learn sustainable farming, creative culinary arts, and digital marketing.
  2. Employment: 60 participants will join Chef Dawei Foods Ltd., receiving a monthly salary and 0.5% equity shares in the company.
  3. Entrepreneurship: Another 60 women will receive €2,000 each as seed capital to launch their ventures.
  4. Post-Training Support: Chef Dawei Foods Ltd. will mentor these ventures, retaining a 10% stake in each for sustainability and continuity.

Budget Allocation

The total funding required for this project is €400,000, distributed as follows:

  • Salaries for 60 women: €72,000(1 year)
  • Investment capital for ventures: €120,000
  • Training materials and tools: €36,000
  • Logistics, marketing, outreach, mentorship, and other implementation costs: €96,000
  • Land Rentals and acquisition: €76,000

Sustainability and Environmental Impact

Chef Dawei Foods Ltd. champions urban farming in Makepe, Douala, discouraging deforestation and promoting sustainable practices. The use of Daweilizer, an organic fertilizer produced from rabbit droppings and urine, exemplifies their commitment to closing waste loops in agriculture. This fertilizer nourishes crops like waterleaf and pepper used in their dishes, including the signature Eruminati. These efforts address responsible consumption and production while fostering an environmentally friendly food chain.
